Hybrid fractional laser
HALO is a hybrid fractional laser, a true laser and the counterpart to BBL's broadband light. Sciton built it to deliver two wavelengths into the same microscopic treatment zone at once: an ablative one that resurfaces the very top of the skin, and a non-ablative one that works deeper, where sun damage actually sits. That pairing is what does the job of a far harsher resurfacing in a single pass.
Often in one or two sessions, it softens fine lines and wrinkles, refines pores and uneven texture, and lifts sun damage and discoloration, all while rebuilding collagen for results that keep improving. You get the glow of a deep resurfacing with a fraction of the downtime. Often paired with BBL, so together they renew tone, texture, and pigment for one radiant result.

The question we get most, and the honest answer is that they do different jobs. Many plans use both. Your provider maps which one your skin needs at your free consultation.

- Is HALO a laser?
- Yes. HALO is a hybrid fractional laser, delivering an ablative and a non-ablative wavelength into the same microscopic treatment zone. It is the laser on our menu.
- How long is the downtime after HALO?
- Expect three to five days of visible downtime: swelling for two to four days, redness peaking around day three, then a bronzed, sandpaper texture that flakes and peels away. Healing varies with the depth of the treatment and with the person, so we plan yours with room to spare rather than to the best case.
- When can I wear makeup again after HALO?
- Once the peeling is finished. On the second or third day the skin takes on a bronzed, sandpaper texture, then flakes and peels off — makeup goes back on once that process is complete. We will send you home knowing what each day of the healing arc should look like, so none of it arrives as a surprise.
- How far before an event should I schedule HALO?
- A month, and six to eight weeks if there will be close photographs. The visible part of healing runs three to five days, but sunscreen stays part of the routine daily for up to three months afterwards, and healing varies from person to person — so five days is not the number to plan to. Bring the date to your consultation and we will work backward from it.
- Does HALO hurt?
- Most people describe a feeling of heat with occasional prickling, and find it manageable. Sciton's guidance pairs the treatment with a topical numbing cream and built-in cooling, so most people feel very little discomfort.
- How many HALO treatments will I need?
- Often one or two. Sciton describes results in one to two treatments for most people, and how many suit your skin and goals is set at your consultation.
- How long does a HALO appointment take?
- We book an hour for a HALO appointment. Sciton puts the treatment itself at fifteen to thirty minutes.
- How long do HALO results last?
- Sciton says results can last for years, as long as your skin is protected from the sun. Your skin keeps aging after any treatment, so daily sunscreen is what keeps the result looking its best. Results vary.
- Is HALO right for my skin tone?
- Suitability depends on your skin tone and is always assessed at your consultation.
- Should I choose HALO or BBL?
- HALO works mainly on texture: fine lines, pores and uneven skin, with three to five days of visible downtime. BBL works mainly on tone, such as sun damage, redness and pigment, with little to no downtime. They are often paired, and your consultation decides which suits your skin, or whether both do.
- Is the consultation free?
- Yes, always. A consultation here is a real appointment with our nurse practitioner, our registered nurse or one of our licensed aestheticians, depending on the treatment, at no charge, with no pressure and no obligation attached. We talk through your skin, your goals, and what we would honestly recommend, and you leave with a plan you can take home. Come for the consultation, decide on treatment after.
