The Nefertiti neck lift is the name people know it by, but it is not surgery and nothing is lifted with a blade. It is a wrinkle relaxer, placed along the vertical bands of the neck and just under the jawline, so the thin neck muscle that forms those bands relaxes. The bands soften, and with less pull downward the jawline can look more defined.
One wrinkle relaxer is FDA-approved for moderate to severe neck bands, and it is the one we use. A typical treatment is 26 to 36 units, depending on how many bands you have on each side, from $13 a unit. It works on muscle, not on loose skin, jowls or fat under the chin, so the free consultation starts with whether it is the right tool for what you see. Individual results vary.

- How many units does a Nefertiti neck lift take?

- When will I see results, and how long do they last?
- In the studies behind its approval, results were measured at two weeks and faded gradually over about three to four months. How long yours last depends on you, and results vary.
- Will it help loose skin, jowls or a double chin?
- No. It relaxes muscle; it does not tighten skin or remove fat, and the studies behind its approval did not include people whose concern was loose skin, jowls or fat under the chin. If that is what you see, we will say so at the consultation.
- What side effects are possible?
- The most common are bruising or tenderness where the needle went in. Rarely, swallowing difficulty or neck weakness can occur, so tell us about any swallowing, breathing or neuromuscular condition before treatment.
- Is it permanent?
- No. It wears off gradually. In the studies, repeat treatments were at least three months apart.
- Who does the treatment?
- A licensed nurse, every time: our nurse practitioner or our registered nurse injector.
