The light is filtered to the wavelengths the pigment in the follicle absorbs, so the follicle heats at its source while the skin around it is left alone.
It runs on the same Sciton BBL® HEROic™ platform as our photofacial, which covers ground quickly enough to make the larger areas practical. Treatments are quick and comfortable, and suited to most areas: face, underarms, bikini, legs, chest, and back. Over a short series, the aim is smoother skin, fewer ingrown hairs and far less shaving and waxing.

- How many hair-reduction sessions will I need?
- Plans run as a short series because that is what the treatment honestly takes; a single visit will not get you there, and we will not sell it as if it could. How many visits your areas want depends on the hair and the skin in question. Book a free consultation and we will map the plan before you commit to anything.
- Can I do hair reduction in the Phoenix summer?
- Yes, with the same sun rules as every BBL treatment: treated skin stays out of direct sun for fourteen days afterwards, and extended sun exposure is best avoided beforehand, since a tan changes what the light is aimed at. For larger areas like the legs in an Arizona summer, that takes some honest calendar work — tell us your plans and we will schedule around them.
- Does BBL hair reduction hurt?
- Most people find it comfortable. Sciton describes a warm, prickly sensation that most people tolerate well without numbing cream.
- How long does a hair-reduction appointment take?
- It depends on the area. Sciton puts a treatment at anywhere from five minutes for a small area like the upper lip to about thirty for a larger one like the legs.
- Does it work on blonde or gray hair?
- Usually not well. The light is aimed at the pigment in the follicle, so very light blonde, gray or white hair has little for it to find. We look at your hair and skin at the consultation before recommending a plan.
- Is hair reduction right for my skin tone?
- Suitability depends on your skin tone and is always assessed at your consultation.
- How is BBL hair reduction different from waxing?
- Waxing pulls hair out at the root, and it grows back, typically within a few weeks. Hair reduction works on the follicle itself over a short series, for far less hair in the long run, though it is reduction rather than a permanent fix. We offer both.
- Is the consultation free?
- Yes, always. A consultation here is a real appointment with our nurse practitioner, our registered nurse or one of our licensed aestheticians, depending on the treatment, at no charge, with no pressure and no obligation attached.
